Fly, Boxelderbug, & Lady Beetle Page  (Our Most Popular Service)

Our treatment program has been very popular and very successful for controlling Asian lady beetles, flies, boxelder bugs, spiders, and other fall invading pests.  We serve about 1,100 customers every fall.  This service involves spraying a residual insecticide on the entire outside of your house from the roof to the ground.  Everything is covered except the windows although some drift and overspray will be seen on the glass.  This comes off with soap and water.

You have the option of either 1 application or 2.  The advantage of 2 applications is longer control.  You should expect 4-6 weeks of control with 1 application and 8-10 weeks with 2 applications.  The first application is applied in late August or early September.  The second application, if requested, is applied 4-5 weeks after the first.  Cost is usually $65 - $100 for the first application with some houses costing more and some less.  The second application is 70% of the first application (30% discount).  Please contact us today.

Asian Lady Beetles

The multicolored Asian Lady Beetle has become common throughout the United States and all of Iowa. It is well known for the annoying habit of accumulating on the sides of buildings and wandering indoors during the fall. Asian lady beetles fly to sunny, exposed surfaces when preparing to hibernate through the winter. The time of beetle flight varies but is usually from mid-September through October (depending on weather). Light colored buildings and walls in full sun appear to attract the most beetles.

Asian lady beetles are a beneficial biological control in trees during the summer, and in fields and gardens during the fall, but can be a severe household nuisance during late fall and winter. They do not feed or reproduce indoors; they cannot attack the house structure, furniture, or fabrics. They cannot sting or carry diseases. Lady beetles do not feed on people though they infrequently pinch exposed skin. Lady beetles may leave a slimy smear and they
have a distinct odor when squashed.

Clusterflies
The large, black, pesky flies that show up in bed rooms and on window sills from late fall through early spring are a common household pest known as cluster flies.  Cluster flies do not reproduce indoors, and home owners bothered by these pests do not need to fear the flies are "hatching" from a dead animal or other unpleasant material within the attic or walls. Cluster flies develop as parasites inside the bodies of earthworms.

The flies cluster on the warm sides of buildings in late summer during the day. When the sun goes down and the temperatures cool, these flies crawl into the building through cracks under the eaves and around windows or through gaps in the siding. Once inside and secured in a protected location, they remain in hibernation until warmed by heat from the furnace or the sun.
