The following recommendations answer the most frequently asked questions from home and business owners about Green Valley’s lawn applications:
Should we stay off the lawn after it’s been treated? If so, for how long?
People, pets, and children should stay off the lawn until spray applications dry. When applied in the middle of the day, it usually takes about 10 minutes for spray to dry. If applied in the morning, it usually takes until the dew dries.
Does rain interfere with the performance of fertilizer, herbicide, and insecticide?
Rain does not interfere with the performance of fertilizer, crabgrass herbicide, or grub insecticide. In fact, these products need rain or watering in to work properly. Crabgrass herbicide should be watered in before crabgrass seeds germinate, and the grub insecticide should be watered in by the end of July.
The broadleaf weed spray does need time to dry on the weeds before a rain. Occasionally, the weatherman incorrectly predicts when rain will occur. If rain does fall before the spray has had enough time to work, we will check the weeds in a few days and respray if necessary at no extra charge .
When can I mow after a herbicide application?
Don’t mow for 24 hours after a herbicide application. You must give the weed herbicide time to move to the roots.
Can I bag clippings if I mow after a fertilizer application?
Don’t bag clippings after a fertilizer application until the lawn has been rained on once. Otherwise, you may remove some fertilizer pellets.
Can I still use grass clippings as mulch after a fertilizer application?
If you use grass clippings for garden or flower bed mulch, don’t save the clippings until the third mowing after a fertilizer application.
How short should I cut my grass?
Don’t cut the grass shorter than two inches when the weather is cool and wet (spring and fall). Don’t cut shorter than three inches when it is hot or dry (summer). We mow our lawns at three inches all year long.
